We work with faculty to

Partnership building

We identify and match faculty with international funding opportunities. We also help faculty connect and partner with external collaborators.

Project development

We support grant application by:

  • Developing teaming strategies
  • Reviewing and editing application materials
  • Writing application sections, e.g., background, monitoring and evaluation plans, broader impacts, sustainability plans

Project support

Smith Center members can be written into grants to play supporting roles, e.g., geographic expertise, program management and coordination, monitoring and evaluation.

Funding Opportunities

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) links U.S. agriculture to the world to enhance export opportunities and global food security.

Fellowships and Exchanges

Borlaug Fellowship Program: The Borlaug Fellowship Program offers mentoring and training to researchers and policymakers from developing countries to help promote food security and economic growth.

Cochran Fellowship Program: Provides short-term, U.S.-based training opportunities to agricultural professionals from developing and middle-income countries.

International Agricultural Education Fellowship Program: Provides fellowships to U.S. citizens to assist developing countries in establishing school-based agricultural education and youth extension programs.

Faculty Exchange Program: Provides semester-long U.S. training opportunities to university-level agricultural educators from developing countries.

Scientific Exchange Program: The Scientific Exchange Program supports scientific training, collaborative research and mentoring between U.S. scientists and international agricultural professionals.

Scientific Cooperation Research Program: Supports joint research, education, and extension projects between U.S. and international agricultural professionals.

The Gates Foundation is a nonprofit fighting poverty, disease, and inequity around the world. Their Global Grand Challenges is a family of initiatives fostering innovation to solve key global health and development problems.
